DAYTON–The local elementary participated in the Read Across America program with an accumulative reading goal of 20,880 minutes. All the students in Dayton Elementary incorporated extra reading time into their schedule over two weeks, to meet the Read Across America program 20,880 reading minute goal. Jay Inslee signed Senate Bill 5824 sponsored by Senators Sam Hunt, D-Olympia; Karen Keiser, D-Des Moines; Patty Kuderer, D-Bellevue; Marko Liias, D-Edmonds; and T'wina Nobles, D-Fircrest, which changes requirements to place a library initiative on the ballot. DAYTON–A moment of joy for Deacon Mike Breier and the Salinas family as three received the Quilt of Valor on March 10. Debbie Bailey presented, on behalf of the Lewis Clark Quilts of Valor, three quilts made by Sylvia Demaris. As a farmer's daughter, and later during the first five years of my previous 19-year-marriage, a farmer's wife, the standing rule was to never say anything about how things were going, such as "How's harvest?" PRESCOTT–Izzy, the camel, passed away on January 24, 2024. He was 18 years old. So many have experience Izzy the camel and looked forward to his appearances at local and area events over the years. But, one day Izzy was feeling poorly which lasted a few days and the vet was called to help him overcome his ails.
