DAYTON–City streets here that received a paving surface called Ottaseal last summer-which turned streets into what might feel like a country gravel road-may get a remedy this year, says Ryan Paulson, Public Works Director. "The Transportation Improvement Board (TIB) has said that of all the projects piloted, our outcome was the worst," Paulson said. The Ottaseal process is similar to the familiar "chip seal," except that the pilot project involved a different oil solution on Dayton's streets. T...

By Sen. Mark Schoesler, Rep. Joe Schmick and Rep. Mary Dye We are back in Olympia for this year's legislative session, which began Jan. 13 and is scheduled to end April 27. Many classic rock fans remember The Who song "Won't Get Fooled Again." It has a line, "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss," that likely will apply to our state's incoming governor, Bob Ferguson. Having seen how Ferguson operated during three terms as attorney general, we suspect he will simply continue in the same...

To the editor, The Port of Columbia is weighing the pros and cons of selling our railroad. Under Port ownership, we, the public, have a direct say in the operation and maintenance of the line. We would lose that if it is sold to a private entity. While the potential new owner may say that the rail will be operated in a way that best serves our community, the...

Some New Year's resolutions often include exercising, losing weight, and getting more organized. There are also some unusual ones. One resolution was to order every drink on a Starbucks menu. Another was to stop blaming things on the dog. New Year's resolutions can be helpful, but there are certain things we don't wait for a New Year to do. When the Lord puts it in our heart to make a change, we don't wait for a new year. Our commitment to Him is to love and please Him moment by moment. We do...
