  • Olympia Update

    Mar 17, 2022

By Rep. Skyler Rude, Rep. Mark Klicker and Sen. Perry Dozier The 2022 legislative session is now in the rearview mirror. It has been our honor to represent and serve the people of the 16th district and be your voice in Olympia. This session featured 100 percent remote committee testimony with some in-person floor action, much like last year. The good news is many legislators, including all three of us in the 16th District, were able to finally vote in person by the end of session. Also, much like last year, state spending, tax relief,...

  • Letters to the Editor

    Mar 17, 2022

To the editor: Per the question of whether a daycare facility might be sited at Port of Columbia land, Commissioners Watts and Bryan resisted the idea that such a facility is suitable for a site more appropriately reserved for more traditional business development. That is a reasonable discussion, although there are many of us who see a daycare facility as providing not only jobs at the facility, but more importantly allowing single parents and working couples to stay in the local work force. However, it was clear from his public comments that...

  • Reading sticks Elementary Principal

    Mar 17, 2022

DAYTON–Elementary school students earned over 1,000 strips of tape during the "Read Across America" week February 28–March 3. The elementary school staff set a mighty high goal for students to achieve during the "Read Across America" week recently. The challenge was the more students read, the more strips of tape they would earn to stick Elementary Principal Amy Cox to the wall. It was estimated at least 600 strips would be needed to get her to stay "stuck" to the wall securely. The stu...

That website gives the audience summary as “Well acted and beautifully filmed, this version of the classic story is an unusual but enjoyable musical–and Peter Dinklage is a Cyrano for the ages.” It is rated PG-13 for some strong violence, thematic and suggestive material, and brief language. • Pastor's Corner

    Mar 17, 2022

The clown’s performance brought jeers and cheers as he rode the circus ring on his tiny tricycle, running over the exaggerated shoes of other clowns. A well-orchestrated crash sent him flying over the tricycle handlebars into a heap, only to be greeted with the crowd cheering as he got what he deserved. There may be something funny in the downfall of an arrogant, puffed-up clown, but the fall of the arrogant can be severe and painful in everyday life. It may involve the loss of family, the trauma of broken friendships, loss of job and deep sham...
