In October, 1923, Roy Nichols, the grandfather of Columbia County resident Jim Peterson, was arrested in LaGrande, Ore., on suspicion of murder and train robbery. Nichols was doubly cursed. He not only bore an uncanny–and unfortunate–physical resemblance to two of three men who were the subject of what...

    Aug 4, 2022

By Sen. Mark Schoesler R-9-Ritzville Over the past couple of years, the Democratic majorities in the Legislature have pushed through laws that have weakened public safety. Since then, we’ve experienced the consequences of that party’s soft-on-crime approach. The 2021 crime report recently released by the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs showed an increase in several categories of violent crime in our state, including auto theft. So far this year, auto theft is becoming even worse in Washington. According to a guest edi...

  • Pastor's Corner

    Aug 4, 2022

Our stationary exercise bicycle has been very beneficial. It provided a way of therapy in the recovery of two knee replacement surgeries and on rainy days it is available to give needed exercise. Yet there’s one thing it doesn’t do. It doesn’t take me anywhere. For all the effort put into peddling it, I’m always in the same place when I’m done as when I started.
