  • Mystery Photo identified

    Loyal Baker|Aug 20, 2020

DAYTON–The "Mystery Photo" has been identified and by the most ethereal manner imaginable. Eagle-eyed subscriber Debbie Seney contacted the Dayton Chronicle with the suggestion that the little lady pictured in the August 13 edition might be the late Ardith Lee (Hunt) White. A few weeks ago, Seney had easily identified a different "mystery photo" as being a family portrait of her father's family. How did Seney reverse-age someone she was acquainted with later in life enough to identify the s...

The disturbing thing about current affairs is that We, the People, see what is happening, but we feel helpless doing anything about it. What we’re up against is a huge political engine, a collective bunch of politicians and powerful people with names like Soros, Clinton and Gates, who are all deeply involved. This faction has done everything in its power, coup attempt after coup attempt, to get President Trump out of White House. Russian collusion didn’t work; impeachment didn’t work. How about a tanking economy? Or at least the perce...

  • On the Edge of Common Sense

    Baxter Black|Aug 20, 2020

There is a common belief among many urban folks that a cowboy rides around all day and sings to cows. John Wayne and Tom Mix added “Drifting Ranch Saver” to their résumé. “Don’t worry, Nell, Black Bart will never get your ranch as long as Silver and I remain compassionate!” Marlboro turned him into a person who chases horses all over the place and relaxes around the chuckwagon in a yellow slicker. We cowboy poets have augmented the picture of the cowboy as a Shakespearian throwback with green...

  • HOSPITAL CORNER

    Aug 20, 2020

By Sean Russell What’s in a name? What is a Health System? In 1960 we broke ground and built Dayton General Hospital, and for many years and still today, it served as the hub of healthcare in our community. But like all things, we grow, we adapt, and we change. Today, we are formally known as Columbia County Health System, Columbia County Public Hospital District No. 1. Now you’re probably asking yourself, what exactly does that mean and how does it benefit my family and me? Fair question, and we’re going to try and unpack that for you right...

  • Pastor's Corner

    Aug 20, 2020

In chapter 8 of his First Letter to the Corinthians, St. Paul writes about the pastoral difficulties surrounding eating meat sacrificed to idols. The meat from animals used in pagan sacrifice was being sold in Corinthian markets. Eating the meat of sacrificed animals was seen as an extension of the sacrifice and participation in it. Paul states that there is but one God and that idols don't exist, so eating the meat sacrificed to them amounts to eating the meat of an animal sacrificed to...

She describes her mother as being "horrified," but her father, an artist, went out and purchased art supplies (especially paper) so that her creative instincts could be nourished. That was b...
