    DAYTON-Over 100 people from in and around Dayton gathered at the Courthouse for the Prayer Walk for the community and nation on September 26 at 9 a.m. The crowd was met by event organizer and Faith Chapel Elder Fred Giacci and Undersheriff Robbie Patterson.     DAYTON–Columbia County voters have received their ballots for the 2020 General Election, according to County Auditor Anne Higgins. The vote-by-mail ballots were delivered to the post office on Friday, October 2, Higgins said.     Columbia County equipment was giving the Touchet River channel through Dayton's downtown area some attention this week. County track hoes were working in the river, clearing woody debris from along the river banks upstream of the Main Street Bridge, according to County Engineer Chuck Eaton. Smith January 26, 1933–September 21, 2020 Howard Preston Smith, 87, of Waitsburg, Wash., passed away surrounded by family at his daughter's Lauri McKinley, home in Dayton, Wash., on Monday September 21. Howard was born in Walla Walla, Wash., to Jake and Frances Smith.
