  • Mail carrier injured, walks a mile for help

    ostal Service (USPS) mail carrier Dawn Jentz, serving this city, was injured while on her delivery route, in a rollover accident on October 6. Though injured, Jentz left the accident scene and walked over a mile to the nearest residence for assistance after her vehicle rolled over on Heaton Gulch Road three miles north of Pomeroy.     DAYTON–The County has either completed or is currently under construction this year on four projects totaling 8.2 million dollars in grant funding. The projects are the Tucannon Road Reconstruction Project $1,200,000; 2023 Pavement Preservation Project $1,200,000; Vernon Smith Bridge Replacement Project $3,500,000; and the Bowman Hill/Lower Hogeye Road Reconstruction Project $2,300,000.     DAYTON–Two bridges in northern Columbia County will be temporarily closed on October 24 for annual inspections, the Columbia County Public Works Department advises. The Starbuck Bridge at the north end of Kellogg Hollow Road will be closed from 7:30 a.m. until 12 noon on October 24, and the Vernon Smith Bridge, on Rose Gulch Road, will be closed from 12 noon until 5 p.m. Users of those roads and bridges should plan to travel alternate routes while the bridges are being inspected....
