    DAYTON–Three lucky locals got an unexpected phone call from the Dayton Chronicle last Friday, informing them that they were the winners of the three grand prizes from the 46th Annual Holiday Shopping Spree, a Christmas-time promotion that local businesses, in conjunction with this newspaper, have been conducting since 1978.     DAYTON–District No. 2 Director Zac Fabian, who has served since 2021, has resigned his post on the Dayton School Board. Fabian submitted his resignation to the School Board at their December 18 regular meeting, citing personal reasons.     DAYTON–The Board of Trustees for the Columbia County Rural Library District (CCRLD) approved an interlocal agreement with several area libraries during the December 16 board meeting allowing reciprocal borrowing privileges for card holders.   • Project Timothy Christmas Baskets filled and delivered

    Christmas 2024 was merrier for 75 local families who last week received Holiday Food Assistance Baskets from Project Timothy. Volunteers congregated recently at Parish Hall to fill the baskets with enough groceries for each family to be able to enjoy a filling Christmas meal. Some of the parcels were delivered by Columbia County Public Transportation, others were picked up by recipients.     DAYTON–A number of projects are on the drawing board for 2025, according to W. Grant Morgan, Public Works Director/Columbia County Engineer. Grants totaling some $11,202,300 will fund the 2025 Construction Program, Morgan said. The Starbuck Bridge, currently a structurally deficient bridge with a single lane, will be replaced. Construction will be during 2025-2026 at an estimated cost of $5,840,000, funded through State Rural Arterial Program and Federal Bridge Replacement Grants.
