POMEROY–Dayton-Waitsburg Bulldog wrestler Carlos Norris won three matches and lost one here, finishing third in the Pomeroy Christmas Tournament Dec. 27.
"Carlos Norris had a great day, finishing third after facing some stiff competition," commented Head Coach Ben Slaybaugh. "He's electric and it's fun to watch him do what he does.
"It was a tough tournament and they all wrestled hard," Slaybaugh said.
Norris wrestles in the 138-lb. class and pinned Tyson Tucker of Potlatch, Id., at the 2:42 mark after advancing by a bye in the first round.
In the semi-final, Norris was on the losing end of Trace Evans of Enterprise, Ore., who made the pin at 1:12 on the clock.
Now in the consolation semi-final, Norris worked hard and finally pinned Stephen McHargue of Kittitas with :36 remaining.
He faced Eli Prather of Potlatch in the third-place match, winning by fall at 4:45.
Three of Norris's Pomeroy teammates, Braedyn White, Nick Hastings and Will Winona, each worked through the consolation bracket before dropping the final match for fourth place.
White, at 170 lbs., won the first two matches over K. Armstrong of Hanford and R. Morello of Joseph. In the semifinal, K. Brown of Potlatch pinned White at 1:10. He then pinned B. Rogers of Colfax/GarPal in the consolation semi, and lost by decision (10-9) to P. Jones of Kittitas.
Nick Hastings, in the 132 lb. class, won one and lost two matches, getting pinned by C. Fabbi of Clearwater Valley at the :50 mark, then making quick work of J. Campbell of Kennewick at 3:32. He fell to C. Fent of Enterprise with :42 remaining.
Pomeroy's 182-pounder Will Winona fell in the first three matches to R. Page of Clarkston, C. Larsen of Orofino, and D. McElroy of Clearwater Valley. In the fifth round, Winona won by medical forfeit over D. McIntosh of Orofino.
Curtis Winona, 160 lbs., lost to K. Naranjo of Orofino and J. Leader of Hanford.
