COLBERT–Dayton wrestler Carlos Norris cruised through the quarter- and semi-finals at the Northwest Christian Crusader Classic wrestling tournament, then was pinned at 2:18 to finish second in the 138 lb. class at this 17-team tournament.
"Norris looked solid enroute to a second-place finish," observed Pomeroy Coach Ben Slaybaugh of Norris's performance at the tourney. "He's quick on his feet and wrestled with a lot of control."
Norris received a bye in the first round, meeting Aaron Roberts of Liberty in the quarterfinals. He pinned Roberts in 1:14, advancing to the semifinal.
There, Norris got the win by fall at :59 over Hayden Blank of Lakeside.
Facing Sam Martin of St. Maries in the championship round, Norris fought through 2:18 before being pinned.
Braedyn White, in the 170-lb class, started strong with two wins, then was pinned in the semifinal and lost a 9-2 decision in the third/fourth-place match.
At the Chiawana Dual Meet Jan. 11, Norris cruised through the 138-lb. class with pins in all five matches. First was I. Kornagay of Eisenhower (:56); J. Campbell of Kennewick (2:00); G. Escalera of Chiawana (2:00); S. Shook of Richland (2:21) and Y. Ahmed of Rogers (:40).
"It was a good tournament that allowed all of our guys to get lots of mat time," Slaybaugh noted. "Norris and White continued their strong season each placing first individually."
White pinned four and got a decision in one to win the 170-lb. division. He pinned J. Sartain of Eisenhower in :44, and E. Mendoza of Kennewick at :53. The 7-2 decision over F. Hedrick of Chiawana was before White Pinned J. Villarreal of Richland (2:13) and J. Lawrence of Rogers (2:40).
