Norris to White Swan to defend 2019 title

RITZVILLE–Dayton-Waitsburg wrestler Carlos Norris competed at the Eastern Washington Athletic Conference League Tournament this week, Wednesday, February 5, at White Swan, hoping to defend his 2019 championship in the 138-lb. division and advance to the Regional Tournament in Oroville Feb. 15. Results will be published in next week's newspaper.

At the White Swan meet, Norris must finish in the top four places to move on to regionals where he must also finish in the top three to advance to state in the Tacoma Dome, February 21-22.

"Braedyn [White] and Carlos are starting to put it all together as we get ready to head into postseason," commented Head Coach Ben Slaybaugh.

At a league meet here Feb. 1, Norris, a Dayton-Waitsburg grappler who practices and competes with Pomeroy, made quick work of his opponents, J. Haas of Liberty, pinned at 3:27, and D. Bjornberg of Reardan, in a win by fall at 3:27.

White pinned S. Olson of Lind-Ritzville-Sprague at 1:05, then, in the second match, won by fall over B. Rogers of Colfax. White is looking for further post-season action as he and two teammates, Will Winona and Curtis Winona, head to the District 5-6 1B/2B South League Tournament, working to advance to the regional meet and keep the 2019-2020 season going. The trio of Pirate wrestlers will be competing at Liberty High School today, February 6.

Will Winona, in the 182-lb. division, pinned his Lind-Ritzville-Sprague opponent before losing by fall to a Colfax Bulldog wrestler. Curtis Winona, in the 160-lb. class, lost both matches by fall.
