Ten Years Ago

April 21, 2010

A crowd of over 200 people gathered at the Running T Ranch for the Dayton Days coronation event. Lanny Adams, vice president of the Board of Dayton Days, emceed the evening. Chaperone and Court advisor Kelly White announced Kellie Wessels was named queen of the Dayton Days Court with Madeline Jensen and Darci Hall will serve as princesses for the coming year.

Rea Culwell, Columbia County Prosecutor is seeking re-election to a second term as Columbia County Prosecutor.

Twenty-six members of the Dayton High School Chapter of Future Business Leaders of America traveled to Yakima, Washington to participate in the annual State Business Leadership Conference. Three members, Tucker Blessinger, 1st place in American Project event, Kellie Wessel, 2nd in Electronic Career Portfolio event and Nathanial Steen, 3rd in Database Design and Application will travel to Nashville in July to represent Washington State FBLA in the National event.

April 19, 1995

PTSO carnival time again fun for all ages. The PTSO sponsored events are scheduled for Saturday, April 29, from 6 to 9 p.m. in the high school gym.

Gary Lentz co-advisor of the Blue Mountain Rocketeers had a perfect day for 19 members to successfully launch 33 rockets, some screaming to an altitude of 1300 feet and others much lower heights.

April 19, 1970

Three Dayton students attending Whitman College in Walla Walla were honored at the March 9 recognition dinner for scholarship achievement. Recognized for obtaining a grade point average of 3-3 or above were Larry R. Faulkner chemistry; James V. Thorn, mathematics – physic and David Thorn..

James Erbes, a 1969 graduate of Dayton High School, and a graduate student at Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska, has received the John D. Rice Memorial Scholarship for second – term study.

Marvin D. Evers, vocational agriculture instructor at Dayton High School has been named president of the Washington State Advisory Committee for Vocational Agriculture. The Committee was formed to improve teaching of Vo-Ag programs.

April 19, 1945

Douglas McKinley, who is the Philippines writes his mother he saw Eddie Kerr in Frisco he was going aboard his transport, but was disappointed that he didn’t get to talk to him, he ran into Jess Kenoyer at New Guinea, when they were loaded on the same boat for the Philippines and ran into Roy Williams in the Philippines.

Loren Lambert suffered injuries when his horse fell into a fifteen foot ditch, Loren in the company of Ed McForlane, government trapper and Edgar Lambert, who was home on furlough were coyote hunting.

One Hundred Years Ago

April 17, 1920

This week the Prater-Rinehart Hardware Co. passed into the hands of Mr. John Dingle of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and stock taking commenced today.

The Club Café has changed hands, the new proprietor, Mr. Dewey Martin, having purchased the interests of Luther Shannon, who has left the city with his family.

Frank Finkle and Fred Elder returned from Montana Thursday.

One Hundred Twenty-Five Years Ago

April 20, 1895

O. B. Logan will move into and take possession of the Cameron House and will be prepared by the first of May to receive all patients requiring medical attendance, both county and private. The house will be known as the Columbia Hospital, where the sick will be cared for at reasonable rates. Best nurses have been employed for both male and female.
