DAYTON-A break-in and burglary of carpentry equipment, tools and paint occurred at the City Lumber & Coal Yard sometime during the night October 16 and the morning of October 17.
Employee T.J. Dobbs said it is unknown if one or more people were involved, but upon coming into the store Saturday morning, it was clear that two of chained areas and one of the doors were broken that were safeguarding the property. Owner, Brad Hatfield said that one of the chains was 5/16 high test chain.
Dobbs said random merchandise was taken including multiple cans of spray paint, some cordless drills, air nail guns, a grinder, some hammers and tool bags. Other merchandise including copper electrical wire was lying about, out of place. Dobbs found it curious that they didn’t take things like power tools or ammunition.
Whoever did this, left behind personal property which was given to the sheriff’s department when they came to investigate.
Hatfield said he will assess the damages. He also said that the perpetrator seemed familiar with the place, so he suspects it could be someone local.
