DAYTON-The Columbia County Rural Library will reopen November 9 with specific hours for at-risk patrons and other hours for the general public between 11 a.m.–4 p.m., Monday–Friday.
Since the onset of COVID-19 and the mandatory shutdowns seven months ago, the Dayton Memorial Library is set to reopen with specific hours between 11 a.m.–12 p.m. for at risk patrons, and 12 p.m.–4 p.m. for the general public, Monday-Friday.
The main floor of the library, which has had an extensive remodel to configure better flow, will be open. However, due to continuing construction in the basement, the Children’s Library will remain closed as will the Delany Room, which is regulated according to State guidelines.
In accordance with State safety guidelines, the library is able to accommodate up to 11 patrons at a time keeping six feet apart. Patrons and staff are required to wear a mask covering their mouth and nose, or present a medical card. A Library visit including computer use, unless otherwise arranged, is limited to 15 minutes and will require a temperature check. Patrons are also asked not to browse.
The Library Board of Trustees’ Reopening Policy includes the following allowance: “Access to library free WIFI remains available outside the building and two laptops will be available for curbside–outside use. Patrons will need to sign out the laptop and show photo ID and may not remove the laptop from the library property.”
Sanitation and staff hygiene procedures are in place for the use of the facility and library materials. Some services such as printing, will be handled only by employees. Computers will have coverings on them that will be cleaned or replaced between patrons.
If a positive COVID-19 case occurs that is traced to the library, procedures are in place to handle it responsibly and could result in more limited hours or in a closure.
Curbside pick-up will continue to be offered and the use of the service is encouraged.
Kristie Korslund is acting as interim Library Director and COVID-19 Supervisor.
