DAYTON–The Touchet Valley Golf Course has been seeking funds to improve the course with an underground irrigation system, and it is raising money for the second phase: construction of an irrigation reservoir.
Recently, the golf course got some good news. The "Build the Buzz" fundraising drive's goal is to raise $20,000 before December 31, and to move that along, an anonymous donor has pledged to match any donation between now and then, two to one. "For every dollar donated to this charitable fund, the donor will donate $2," said Sean Thurston, Touchet Valley Golf and Recreation Fundraising Coordinator.
"We are currently in phase II of our three-phase plan and great gains have been made toward our goal of $83,000," Thurston said in a letter to area golfers.
"This year we have raised over $30,000, allocated for the second phase of our project: construction of an irrigation reservoir," he said. "Our 2020 golf tournament raised over $15,000 and we received a $2,500 Pacific Power Foundation Grant, $3,000 Warren Community Action Fund Grant, and $10,000 Dayton/Columbia County Washington Fund Grant."
The organization recently established a fund with the Blue Mountain Community Foundation (BMCF) in Walla Walla to accept charitable donations specifically for the irrigation project, Thurston said.
Columbia County Commissioners approve construction of the reservoir last June, and construction is planned for Fall, 2021.
Anyone wanting to donate may do so by check to the Blue Mountain Community Foundation, P.O. Box 603, Walla Walla, WA 99362, with checks payable to the "TVGC Irrigation Project." Donations can be made by credit card online at http://www.bluemountainfoundation.org.
