Marion Gladys Anderson

August 7, 1930-January 7, 2021

Marion Gladys (Mortimore) Anderson went home to be with Jesus on January 7, 2021. She was born August 7, 1930, to Hugh and Margaret Powers Allmon in Dayton, Wash.

Her husband, Estol Mortimore, preceded her in death in 1961, and she then raised and provided for her five children as a cook. She grew up in the Dayton and Waitsburg area, graduating from Waitsburg High School in 1948. She moved with her young family to Spokane, Wash., in 1965, where she spent most of her years. In 1977 she moved to Hawaii with her youngest daughter, where her love for travel grew. Her next adventure, at the age of 57, was becoming a nanny in Florida for several years before returning to Spokane to be near family.

Marion was an independent, strong woman with a great sense of humor, who fiercely loved her family, and was extremely proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren! She was active in her church leadership (Audubon Park United Methodist Church), studying God's Word, cooking, and helping with the annual bazaar. She volunteered at Lidgerwood Elementary School, helping in the Kindergarten and first grade rooms, and enjoyed that immensely. While serving there, she received the Volunteer of the Year award. Marion also worked at the Holiday Inn, the old YMCA, and I'm sure other places we've forgotten about.

She also loved to travel, cook, bake, sew, and even spoke a little French! (cussed!) That's what she told the grand children, who were riding in her car, IF she happened to have a bit of "road rage"!

She loved a great sunset, and she was always sure she was going to hit "the big one"! (Lottery)

She was still driving her car two and a half years ago, and STILL WOULD BE if we would have let her!! Our Mother was an amazing woman.

Marion is survived by her sister Hazel Brown, son Dan Mortimore (Jolene), daughter Cheryl Downie (Steve), daughter Jennifer Carr, 9 grandchildren and spouses, 17 great-children, and numerous nieces and nephews, who love her dearly.

She was preceded in death by, her husband, Estol Mortimore (age 32), sons Thomas, Randall, and Ron Mortimore, daughter Mary Gibney, grandson Nathaniel Downie, great-grandson Logan Mortimore, sister Elsie Campbell, and brother Victor Allmon.

Graveside services will be held in Dayton, Wash., at the cemetery on Saturday, January 16, 11:00 a.m. Friends and family welcome.
