February Festivities at Dayton High
DAYTON–January has come to an end, and the High School is already prepared for the new month. The Junior class is expected to be fundraising for their hope of hosting a prom later this spring, and the Associated Student Body (ASB) already has Valentine's Day festivities in store, as well as further plans on the horizon.
This month, the Junior class will be selling beef jerky, in a variation of flavors, in order to raise money for their future events. The fundraiser will go on for about two weeks, with the classmates selling to their fellow students, teachers, families, and any community members who wish to support them in their efforts.
The closest event the money will support is the "Covid-19 friendly" outdoor prom, which the they hope to host in April. The planned affair has not been approved, but the junior class hopes that they will be able to give their seniors a final dance. For now, the dance is still up in the air, and if not approved, any money that is raised will go toward the Class of 2022's senior gift, and class trip.
As the new month begins, Valentine's Day is coming around the corner. This is the time of month that many begin to worry about buying gifts for their significant others, or even wondering who will be their valentine this year. For the Dayton High ASB, their plans are made, and the group is already hard at work once again.
Last school year, the ASB Valentine's Day festivities were a huge success, and this year's officers are aiming for the same reaction. Starting this week, the ASB will be selling candy grams, roses, and even "Announcement Grams" to be delivered to whomever the student pleases. Valentine's Day at DHS will be celebrated on Friday, February 12, due to the holiday landing on a Sunday this year. The gifts that students purchase will be delivered to their recipients on that day, and the "announcement grams" will be added to the daily morning announcements by President Mackena Culley, and student Elijah Talbott, throughout the week prior to the holiday.
