Future ASB Elections

DAYTON–The 2021-22 Associated Student Body (ASB) officers’ election begin in March. While this is not usually a highly competitive area, this year there will be an entirely new group of elected officers, as all but one current ASB officer are to graduate in June.

The next group of officers will be an entirely new group, with a new dynamic. Their titles and duties will not be established until the new year starts in the fall, but because of their lack of experience, the current ASB officers and their advisor have taken it upon themselves to prepare the newcomers for their future responsibility.

The election process will start and end in March, students of all high school classes are welcome to run for their desired position, with the President role being reserved for seniors, Vice President for Juniors, and Public Relations Manager for Sophomores.

Beginning immediately after Spring Break in April, the future and current ASB officers will meet on a regular basis to prepare the new group. This will help them to understand their responsibilities, and get a feel of what it is like to run ASB and Student Council meetings, the roles of each position, and the processes and jobs which they will be responsible in managing.

For now, the 2020-21 ASB must be commended for their effort to make this unconventional school year as fun and “normal” as possible for their fellow students. With the help of their advisor, they have done all they can to give their school celebrations, activities, and support. This is their duty, and while this year’s team has done a wonderful job thus far, the new election time is coming very soon.
