DAYTON–After a series of frustrating losses, the Dayton-Waitsburg Volleyball team gelled and handed Riverview a three-set loss here Saturday as the team moves into the second half of the covid-shortened season.
DW is now 1-4 and looks to upcoming matches versus TriCities Prep on the home court in Dayton tonight March 11. Valley travels to Walla Walla Valley Academy for a rematch at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 13 in College Place.
"The girls worked really well together," Head Coach Tracy Barron commented of the win over Riverview. "As a whole team, they worked the net well and covered our hitters and blockers more consistently."
Standing out in the 25-9, 25-19, 25-17 win were senior outside hitter Sadie Seney and senior setter Teagen Larsen. Seney pounded 14 kills, made one dig and blocked two Knight attacks. Larsen tallied 14 assists, a dig and an ace serve.
Backing up Seney were DW outside hitters Katherine Houchin and Claudia Benavides. Houchin counted six kills, two assists and a dig, and Benavides made four kills, eight digs and a pair of aces.
At home Tuesday, March 2, DW was overwhelmed by Walla Walla Valley Academy in three sets, 9-25, 11-24, 14-25.
"The girls really struggled with passing tonight," Barron noted, "but had a lot of really great plays at the net. The seniors on the team really stepped up tonight and helped our younger players."
Seney led with five kills, two blocks and five digs. Houchin was a force with three kills, three digs and an ace, with Larsen making six assists, four digs and one ace.
