COLLEGE PLACE–The powerful Walla Walla Valley Academy Knights kept the Dayton-Waitsburg Wolfpack in the mid to low teens in a three set loss here March 13.
With the loss, DW is 2-6 with two matches remaining in the covid season. The Wolfpack visits River View tonight, March 18, then hosts Columbia-Burbank Saturday at noon on the home court in Dayton.
"The girls played a hard game," commented Head Coach Tracy Barron after the11-25, 15-25, 14-25 loss to WWVA. "They adjusted their passing and coverage as it was needed. The ability to adjust really shows how far they have developed as a team."
The Knights kept Dayton-Waitsburg busy fending off attacks and it showed as Sadie Seney led the team with 16 digs, Claudia Benavides defended well with 13 digs and Katherine Houchin dug 11.
Seney nailed six kills and made two blocks. Benavides hammered two kills, made an assist and served one ace. Houchin came up with four kills and three assists.
March 11's home match against TriCities Prep was a three-set loss, 17-25, 7-25, 16-25.
"The team worked really hard on covering our hitters and blockers," Barron commented. "They moved and adjusted well."
Seney and Houchin were standouts for DW. Seney served two aces, swung seven kills, made seven digs and blocked one. Houchin pounded six kills and blocked one attack while contributing eight digs.
DW's second win of the season was over the Columbia-Burbank Coyotes, winning in five sets, 19-25, 25-16, 25-8, 17-25, 15-10 on March 9.
"The girls are continuing to improve with each match," Barron said. "They are working really hard on communicating on the court and tonight's game really showed that hard work pays off."
On the attack, Seney counted 13 kills and Houchin eight, with Teagan Larsen contributing 14 assists and Megan Forney making six assists.
Seney also counted four digs, one block and eight ace serves. Houchin made five digs and an ace, and Forney four digs and two aces. Larsen also marked three digs, two ace serves and a kill.
