Lorraine Etta Jarstad, passed away on Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at the home of her younger son Eric in Shelton, Wash. She was 92 years old.
Loraine was bornan only child to Arthur W. and Bessie S. Kippo in Bremerton, Washington on September 22, 1928. She graduated from Bremerton High School in 1946, worked for the downtown JC Penny store and married Melford K. Jarstad June 21, 1947 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church.
She and Mel had two sons, Kenneth born in 1948 and Eric born in 1956. They also had a daughter Melaine born in 1951 who passed away less than a year later of an inoperable hole in her heart.
Over the years Lorraine and Mel's family lived in Bremerton, Belfair and Union. Retired, with their sons grown, they moved to eastern Washington, living for a while in Starbuck, Dayton and Leavenworth, finally moving to Wenatchee in 2011.
They enjoyed alpine skiing, joining the Bremerton Ski Cruisers around 1950 and helping to establish the ski club cabin at Stevens Pass. For 10 years in the 1970s and 1980s Lorraine drove school bus for the North Mason School District. During this time, she and Mel were active bow hunters.
In later years Mel and Lorraine enjoyed golf and cross-country skiing. Lorraine was an avid hiker and belonged to a small group of women hikers in the Leavenworth/Cashmere area who called themselves the "Mountain Dears." They hiked weekly throughout the area and she had many beautiful photographs of her trips.
Mel preceded her in death March 6, 2014.
She is survived by her two adult sons: Kenneth Arthur Jarstad of Bremerton, Wash., and Eric David Jarstad of Shelton, Wash.
A graveside service will be held at the family plot at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 5409 Kitsap Way, Bremerton, Wash., on Friday, April 9 at 12 p.m.
