Barron golfs to fourth-place finish

PASCO–Two Dayton-Waitsburg golfers recently gave their first high-school golf match their best shot.

DW's Caleb Barron finished a respectable fourth place in the 18-hole, par 72 match at Sun Willows Golf Course here April 8, and teammate Cayle Davis shot 131 to round out the Wolfpack golf effort. Barron's score was 104, behind third-place Evan Stubbs of Cle Elum with 101, Will Neylon of Columbia-Burbank at 90 and leader Sergio Sanchez, Cle Elum, at seven over par, 79.

"The field was small due to Spring Break but we still had some competitive golf," observed Coach Mike McGhan. "Caleb and Cayle were playing in their first ever high school matches and showed me some bright spots.

"Both young men were nervous to begin and made their share of mistakes," the coach added. "However, I was pleased with their ability to recover and make good shots when they needed to. They are beginning to realize which aspects of their games they need to work on."

Teams playing in the match included TriCities Prep, Columbia-Burbank, Cle Elum and DW.

Dayton-Waitsburg Golf traveled to Richland's Columbia Point Golf Course for an April 14 match including golfers from CB, TCP, DeSales, WWVA, and Highland. The match after that will be at the Touchet Valley Golf Course in Dayton on April 21, tee off at 1 p.m.

"We should be back at full strength by then," McGhan said.
