ANNIVERSARY

It's been 50 years since "I do"

DAYTON–Del and Adena Avery were married May 8, 1971 on Mother's Day. It was to be an easy day to remember because it was Mother's Day that year. "We were married on Mother's Day of 1971, thinking it would help Del to remember the date," Adena reflected. "Our thinking was incorrect because the Mother's Day date does not stay the same every year."

During their many years together, the two owned a local tavern on main street Dayton and one in Richland, Wash., too. They also shared their time with young people as local school bus drivers. "We owned, in Dayton, The Mission Tavern on Main Street, which is there no more," said Adena. "We owned My Place Tavern in the Richland Y, also. Which the name has been changed. We both have been school bus drivers for the Dayton School district." Now, Adena continues to drive bus for the Prescott and Waitsburg school districts, intermittently.

Del had a job with the City as a policeman and most interestingly as an Animal Control Officer which he turned into an educational forum for students at the Dayton Elementary School on occasion. "Del was on the Dayton Police force and Animal Control Officer," Adena smiled. "When he would catch an interesting wild animal, he would take it to the Dayton Elementary school for them to see it. Then call the game department.

Both Del and Adena hold several parttime jobs even though they are somewhat retired. What they most like to do is travel and do it as often as they can and make memories with their family of five children and many grandkids and great grandkids.
