Dayton-Waitsburg football, volleyball athletes awarded

WAITSBURG–Following Dayton-Waitsburg's covid-shortened "fall" sports season for football and volleyball, a number of Wolfpack student-athletes stood out and were lauded for their accomplishments at the Dayton-Waitsburg Fall Sports Awards Banquet April 19 at the Waitsburg High School Auditorium.

Head Volleyball Coach Tracy Barron named players from the Wolfpack team, speaking individually about each one.

Senior players Sadie Seney, Teagen Larsen and Katherine Houchin garnered Captain's Awards, Barron said.

Seney was also named Most Valuable Player, and she was an All-League Second Team selection.

Larsen received a plaque as Most Inspirational, and was also an All-League Second Team selection.

Houchin received a Captain's plaque and was an All-League Second Team selection.

Freshman Peyton Struckmeier was the recipient of the Coach's Award.

Makenna Barron, also a freshman, was presented the Most Improved Player plaque, and was an All League Honorable Mention.

Wolfpack Football student-athletes were honored by Head Coach Troy Larsen.

"We saw great senior leadership during the pandemic and during the covid spring season," Larsen said. "We are very excited for the future with such a good sophomore class, and with a lot of interest in student athletes that haven't played football yet."

The coach hopes that, if a goes well with the State of Washington and Covid numbers, that summer football workouts may start around June 22.

Wolfpack Player of the Year was senior Shawn Evans, Larsen said. Evans pulled in 23 catches for 448 yards for a 19.48 yards per catch average and six touchdowns. Evans led the league in receiving yards.

Quarterback Monte Pettichord was named Offensive Player of the Year. Pettichord completed 70 of 164 passes with nine interceptions, 15 touchdowns, and totaled 1,261 yards, an average of 210 per game. He also made three touchdowns rushing.

Two players received the Defensive Player of the Year honor. One was Colton VanBlaricom, who made 44 tackles and three interceptions; the other was Mason Finney, who tallied 48 tackles and one interception.

Lineman of the Year went to Theo Anderson who was the leader with 50 tackles and four sacks.

Special Teams Player of the Year was VanBlaricom, who counted 112.8 return yards per game.

Levi Boudrieau was the Scout Team - Player of the Year.

Wolfpack Football players named to the EWAC 2B Football All-League Offense First Team were Shawn Evans, Receiver, and Theo Anderson, Offensive Line. To the second team, Monte Pettichord, quarterback. Honorable mention was receiver Colton VanBlaricom and receiver Mason Finney.

EWAC 2B Football All-League Defense Second Team awardees were Theo Anderson and Adam Puckett, both defensive line; Finney, linebacker and VanBlaricom, Defensive back/safety.

Letters were awarded Garrett Korslund, Hunter Berg, Hudson Reser, Monte Pettichord, Brayden Mohney, Mason Finney, Shawn Evans, Colton VanBlaricom, Zach Paxton, Christian Paxton, Levi Boudrieau, Benny Bryan, Dea Wanlarbkam, Isaac Conover, Theo Anderson, Jesse Gant, Drake Campbell, Adam Puckett, Jacob Holmberg, Nolan Korslund.

Scholar-athletes were Reser, Pettichord, Mohney, Finney, Evans, VanBlaricom, Z. Paxton, C. Paxton, Boudrieau, Bryan, Wanlarbkam, Conover, Anderson, Campbell and N. Korslund.
