DAYTON–Two sessions of a Community Forum are set for tonight, June 3, in the High School Library, for parents, guardians and community members to focus on areas of concern within the community, including class offerings, discipline, vaping, and substance use. The first session will be at 6 p.m. for discussions pertaining to Dayton Elementary School, and the second session will be at 7 p.m. and concern middle and high school discussion.
Superintendent Guy Strot says these forums will be the first of several that are planned by the Dayton School District over the next few moths.
A recent incident that involved a threat to the school prompted administration officials to cancel school the following day to ensure safety and to provide time for an investigation. Since then, parent/guardians have brought discussion to the forefront regarding how the administration handles discipline, and to study and review policies and seek solutions.
Supt. Strot implemented disciplinary procedures recently and invited anyone in the community with concerns or input to contact him through telephone or email. Strot's email address is [email protected], and he invited calls or texts at 509-530-9373.
