DAYTON-The High School Class of 2021 said their final goodbye to “ol’ DHS” as they graduated over the weekend

The ceremony was held in the high school gym on Saturday, June 5. Each graduate was allowed a certain number of guests in an arranged seating order, along with standard social distancing and other COVID precautions. Besides the few restrictions, the class was able to have a fairly normal, and traditional ceremony.

The commencement began with speeches by Valedictorian Anna Fortier, and Salutatorian Roselin Burris-Ramirez. The graduates were announced by class president Mason Finney, before being presented with their diplomas, and followed by the tossing of their caps. The ceremony was cut shorter than usual to comply better with COVID guidelines, but was just as special.

Now the remaining students at have just three more days left before summer break. The last two days of school, however, have been planned with special activities in mind.

On Tuesday the staff and students will be going on a hike for the day, as an end of the year fun activity and celebration. Wednesday, the official last day of school will be a “movie day” courtesy of the up-and-coming Associated Student Body (ASB) council.

The 2020–21 school year has been one to remember for all. There have been many obstacles, and ups and downs for every student, parent, and staff member at Dayton High School, (DHS). However, as a school we have managed to make the best of what we have. Hopefully the 2021-22 school year will be easier, and more “normal” for all. If not; this school year has proven that DHS students can handle whatever comes their way.
