DW fast-pitch, baseball athletes receive awards

DAYTON–The Sports Awards Banquet for "Spring Sports" saw several Dayton-Waitsburg Wolfpack athletes recognized for their endeavors in the covid-shortened season.

Baseball Head Coach Johnny Watts named nine of his Dayton-Waitsburg Wolfpack players as receiving varsity letters in baseball. The letter recipients included Jasper Morrow, Monte Pettichord, Levi Boudrieau, Cyson Morris, Klint Kuykendall, Jayce Gleason, Zach Durham, Tyson Durham, Quinn Benevides. Eighth grader Ryan Pitcher received a certificate of participation.

Individual award were presented and named Most Improved Player of the Year was Cyson Morris. Zach Durham was named Offensive Player of the Year. Defensive Player of the Year went to Monte Pettichord. The Coaches' Award was presented to Quinn Benevides.

Scholar-athletes on the baseball team were Jasper Morrow, Monte Pettichord and Caleb Barron.

Two Wolfpack hardballers were named to the EWAC All Conference Second Team. They were Monte Pettichord and Zach Durham. Receiving Honorable Mention was Klint Kuykendall and Quinn Benevides.

Coach Carly Benavides named the top players from the DW Fast-Pitch Softball Team.

Scholar-Athletes: Claudia Benevides, Sadie Seney, Kameryn Tupling, Alyssa Segraves, Abby Paolino, Mackenna Barron, Amy Bly, Megan Forney, Teagan Larsen, Lilly Bone, Levi Boudrieau.

Sadie Seney walked away from her senior year in fast-pitch with several accolades. Besides being a Scholar-athlete, Seney was named to the EWAC All League First Team as a pitcher, as well as being named both Offensive Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year.

Receiving All League Honorable Mention were teammates Claudia Benevides and Peyton Struckmeier.

Softball Award Winners were:

True Grit-Peyton Struckmeier; Most Improved-Alyssa Segraves and Mackenna Barron; and Seney as Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year.
