Big weekend in Dayton

Demo Derby, Foodstock & Golf

DAYTON–Engines will roar, golfers will putt and folks will enjoy the "far out" offerings at the Blue Mountain Station's annual Foodstock event this weekend.

The All Wheels Weekend "Extended" Demo Derby will be Saturday, July 17 at the Columbia County Fairgrounds. Gates open at 4 p.m. with tickets available at the gate or at the Dayton Chamber of Commerce, 202 E. Main Street.

The annual "Foodstock & Vintage at the Station" event held at the Blue Mountain Station is also July 17 at 10 a.m.–5 p.m.

This free event includes face painting, rock painting and making tie-dye shirts. Live music will feature local area groups, including Nancy and Richard Monacelli, Calico Bones, Brian Hunt and Tammy Nelson.

In addition to a full menu at the Co-op Market and cold drinks at Mama Monacelli's, food trucks will offer burgers, hotdogs, barbeque and more. Wine, mead and premium liqueur tasting will also be available.

During the day, several drawings will be held with giveaways to the winners.

"Foodstock is a wonderful family event that provides affordable entertainment for the public and supports our artisan food and beverage businesses," says Jennie Dickinson, Executive Director of the Port of Columbia. "We are really excited about the vintage vendor show this year and the great music line-up. We'll have shade canopies set up and a double water slide for the kids and their parents (yes, adults too) to stay cool and have fun!"

The 2nd Annual Norm Passmore Golf Tournament, to benefit the Dayton/Waitsburg Community Health Foundation Fund, tees off at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the Touchet Valley Golf Course, adjacent to the Fairgrounds.

Golfers of all ages and skill levels are welcome, and there will be special games for kids and a variety of prizes.

Individual entry will be $50, and team entry will be $200, which includes greens fees and luncheon.

Proceeds from the fund raiser benefit the Foundation, which supports improving health care in the Dayton and Waitsburg communities.
