DAYTON-The School Board appointed Jeff McCowen to the open board position left by Kate Leid; approved the hiring of two teachers, one paraprofessional; laid plans for the third forum, and maintenance projects at the meeting on July 7.
McCowen took the Oath of Office for the Dayton School Board at the July 7 meeting after they recently appointed him for the open at-large position for the interim period until new Board members get voted in for next term. McCowen is also running uncontested for the No. 5 position.
Recommendations for hire were approved by the Board as follows: Ajay McNarlard for 6-12 Physical Education Teacher, Amy Gillick for K-12 Music Teacher and Jennifer Finney as a Para Professional for the Early Childhood and Assistance Program (ECEAP). Gillick will teach both choir and band where previously Scott Sumner only offered band.
Resignations were accepted for Brooke Lovgren as ECEAP and Special Education Teacher and Shayna Hutchens for Middle and High School Teacher and Advisor.
Ahead of the third scheduled Dayton School District Community Forum on discipline, a revised discipline policy was given to the Board and sent to parents of registered students as well as posted to the district website. The intent was to allow the Board and community members a chance to review and provide input.
Parents, guardians and community members are invited to review the new High School English/Language Arts Curriculum and also the 2021-2022 Math Curriculum which is available at the district office.
Planned summer projects discussed at the meeting were the replacement of the high school gymnasium doors and the purchase of new cafeteria tables. The district is also pursuing the replacement of the greenhouse outside of the Agriculture Building.
The Board meets again July 14 for the regular meeting which includes a budget hearing. This is instead of the regular meeting which would be July 21.
