Lady Wolfpack "focused" in five-set loss to Lady Pioneers

WAITSBURG–The Lady Wolfpack played with emotion and intensity, competing with the Mac-Hi Lady Pioneers down to the wire but dropping the non-league match in five intense sets here last Saturday.

DW played its final match of the season last Tuesday at TriCities Prep. Results will be in next week's newspaper.

The Lady Wolfpack pounded Mac-Hi in the first set, 25-8 and won the second set 25-18. But the Lady Pioneers' momentum was building and they rallied with two wins, 25-18 and 27-25-a hard-fought battle between the two teams where Mac-Hi finally prevailed. In the crucial fifth match, the Lady Pioneers edged DW 15-11.

"Emotions were running high on Senior Night," commented Head Coach Tracy Barron. "The team did a good job staying focused and playing their game."

Makenna Barron was tough at the net with eight kills. She made six digs, a block and one ace. Peyton Struckmeier was also formidable up front, nailing seven kills, one block, an ace and one dig. Claudia Benavides hammered six kills, two ace serves and four digs.

Warden visited October 21 and won in three sets, 22-25; 20-25, 16-25 over the Lady Wolfpack.

"Their net play and coverage were great tonight," Coach Barron said. "The team is continuing to improve with each game."

Top players included Benavides with five kills and an ace serve, Kylee Henry with four assists, a kill, a block and one ace, and Emily Rodrick with a kill, two assists, a dig and one ace serve.

The Lady Wolfpack dropped a match to Ki-Be on October 19 in three sets, 23-25, 15-25 and 13-25.

Ella Larson earned Coach Barron's praise for coming off the bench to contribute in the second match after the Lady Wolfpack came out strong in the first set, losing by just two points, 23-25. "Ella Larson made some really great digs and passes for us in the second match," Barron noted.
