DAYTON–Three incumbents currently serving on the Dayton City Council, Port of Columbia Commission and the Dayton School Board have been outpolled by challengers in local races on the November 2 ballot, and a race for Port Commission No. 3 between Jack Miller and Johnny Watts is too close to call as of election night.
City Councilman Fred Crowe, representing position 7, trails challenger Tyler "Tiger" Dieu by a slim margin, 39 votes in preliminary returns on Election Night. Dieu received 430 votes to Crowe's 391.
Port Commissioner Shawn Brown, representing District 1, trails challenger Seth Bryan by 18 percentage points, receiving 546 votes to Bryan's 787.
Seeking re-election to a long-held School Director post, David D. Bailey is 85 votes behind Korinda Wallace, who has received 651 votes and 53.27% compared to Bailey's 566 votes and 46.23%.
The tightest race is between two candidates who edged out the incumbent in August's Primary: Jack Miller and Johnny Watts. Miller has a 16-vote lead over Watts in preliminary returns on election night, Miller receiving 698 votes and Watts 682.
Another close race is for City Council Member No. 3, between Cindi John and Teeny McMunn. McMunn is leading, as of the preliminary count, with 424 votes to John's 392, a difference of 32 votes. Both candidates are vying for this office for the first time.
Other City offices with races include Member No. 1 between Laura Aukerman and Boe Stevenson. Aukerman, as of preliminary returns, held a substantial 169-vote lead over Stevenson's 316 votes. Both are newcomers to candidacy for City Council.
Member No. 5 candidate Marchand Hovrud received 514 votes and 69.65% of the vote while a write-in candidate has received 224 votes, or 30.35%. As of election night, the write-in candidate was not identified although Vicki Zoller campaigned as a write-in for this seat.
Voters casting their vote for School Director No. 4 gave Aneesha Dieu 666 votes or 54.55% of the total while Anna J. Berg, a candidate who had withdrawn from candidacy, received 546 or 44.72%.
Aukerman, John, Tyler Dieu, Bryan, Wallace, Watts, Hovrud and Aneesha Dieu are affiliated with a recently formed group in the county, the Columbia County Conservatives.
All three Advisory Votes were strongly repealed in Columbia County and appear to be nixed by statewide voters.
