He was born June 17, 1940, in Dayton, Wash., to Francis Eugene Moton and Helen Lucille Munden. sister, Marie Arlene, was born in 1949.
He married Glenys Joan Angell in January of 1963. Son Donald Garie was born later that same year. Son Steven Wayne followed in 1966. Garie and Glenys were married 42 years until she passed away from cancer in 2005.
In his young adulthood, Garie did seasonal work for United States Forest Service and often talked about working in the mountains and the woods. He worked for five years for City of Dayton. He then worked for the Columbia Country Road Department driving dump truck, running road grader and eventual becoming a leadsman, until he retired after 33 years.
He inherited a love of the mountains from both his mother and father which fueled his interests in camping and hunting in the Blue Mountains. Later he got into riding motorcycles with his family.
Garie became extremely close to his in-laws, especially his niece Rita Mings Brown and her daughters Felicia and Becca.
Later in life, he could be frequently seen around town in different eating establishments or going on drives in his pick-up in the mountains. Garie had a sharp memory of history surrounding Dayton, Columbia County, and family.
