DAYTON–Five Wolfpack basketball players have tested positive for Coronavirus, prompting cancellation of this weekend's basketball games versus Warden and Columbia-Burbank, according to Sam Korslund, Dayton-Waitsburg Athletic Combine Athletic Director.
Protocols established prior to the season by athletic directors in the Eastern Washington Athletic Conference (EWAC) simplified the process by deeming that a team unable to play a game due to covid would forfeit the game, Korslund said.
The Friday home game against Warden, however, will be rescheduled to be played on February 5 due to extenuating circumstances from an earlier contest at Warden, which is on the schedule to be played Tuesday, February 1 in Warden. Earlier this season, the game was first canceled then rescheduled due to unspecified "extenuating circumstances," Korslund said, and now Warden is reciprocating with Dayton-Waitsburg being the team with covid positives.
The Saturday, January 22 home game against Columbia-Burbank will be a 1-0 loss.
There were five covid positives on the team, and at least that many are in quarantine due to being in direct contact, Korslund said. Student-athletes affected are from both Dayton and Waitsburg, he added.
