Following the right directions
The directions the GPS voice gave were very clear. We were to take a well-identified turn, proceed a certain distance, and we would arrive at our destination. We soon realized if we followed those directions, we would end up under Elliott Bay instead of at our motel. Perhaps the large Seattle skyscrapers blocked the ability of the satellite signal. Whatever the reason, we knew not to follow the GPS.
The directions for daily living that Jesus gives us in the Bible are clear and accurate. He taught that we would be able to personally verify their truth. He said, “Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own” Jn. 7:17. The person who loves the Lord and truly desires to do His will experiences an “internal validation” as he obeys the teachings of the Bible.
His teachings are solid, helpful, and faithful. The doing of them brings joy to our hearts. Through the Holy Spirit we know His teachings are true and of God. When tempted, His commands protect us. When upheaval has brought us unpleasant circumstances His teachings are our foundation and confidence. The Bible says, “Your word, Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens. Your faithfulness continues through all generations, You established the earth, and it endures. Your laws endure to this day, for all things serve You. If Your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction” Ps. 119:89-92. God Bless You.
