The Corner Village invites crafty people

HUNTSVILLE–The Corner Village located here has opened shop for regular weekend hours from 9 a.m.–4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Vicky Beckmeyer and Cara Watts, a mom and daughter team, are not new to running a business together. They formerly owned Snapdragon Floral and Gifts on Main Street in Dayton for 14 years until 2020.

The shop features several gift sheds of various themes, including three devoted just for Christmas, filled with seasonal favorites of snowmen, angels and Santas. Another shed is for Halloween with spooky finds such as ghosts, skeletons and witches. They also have a yard ornament shed including solar lights and metal wall decor such as geckos, dragonflies and suns. General gifts for sale include bath bombs and salts, aprons and tea towels. Watts said they are trying to create a little European village complete with a village square for gathering around the fire pit.

In addition to the shopping experience, reserved ceramic painting is offered in one of the sheds for both children and adults. Children's painting is on Saturdays, open painting on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, ladies' night on Friday, and on Saturday a family night. Reservations are required because seating is limited.

Birthday parties are also an option and include balloon decorations, plates, cups and plasticware, a personalized ceramic birthday plate that all party attendees sign and everything to paint. Several Mother's Day projects were highlighted including a yarn bowl, a flower vase, or planter pots.

Many of the ceramic pieces to choose from are created by Beckmeyer. "I have done ceramics since I was probably ten years old and I love it. I have my own pouring table. I probably have four to five thousand molds." Some of her finished creations are for sale in the store. She also specializes in burial urns which can be personalized.

The property has a lavender field that will be in season from June through August for bundle picking. Future plans include making soaps and other lavender products and hosting pumpkin carving and s'mores roasting events. They plan to have picnic tables for families to be able to come sit to paint, play and picnic. They have a coop of chickens that will be let to roam for children to play and run with in their open field. "My main goal is kids," Beckmeyer said, adding sentiments about having a place for children to come and be busy and kept off the streets.

The new business is off of Highway 12 on Main Road just north past the grain elevator on Beckmeyer's property. To make reservations for painting call 509-337-6706 or visit The Corner Village Facebook page to message them.
