Memorial Day, Monday, May 30

American Legion Post Commander Charles L. Amerein salutes as veterans and accompanying townspeople stand reverently for the traditional 21-gun salute, which was followed by the playing of Taps, at the Dayton City Cemetery on Memorial Day, Monday, May 30. Amerein read the names of recently deceased veterans whose names will be added to the Veterans Memorial: Robert "Lee" Bowen, William Duane Brown, William Murray Clayton, Thomas Craig George, Kenneth Fletcher, Earl Dedrick Marvin, David Mack Reniff, David William Riggs, Sherman George Thomas, Christopher Benjamin Webber, Fred Conner Gritman, Robert C. Phelps and Chester Meritt Powers. Due to a shortage of a crucial item, etching of the names will be accomplished at a later date, Amerein said.
