Pastor's Corner

An easterner traveling through Wyoming with his son spotted a huge bird sitting in a solitary tree overlooking a steep canyon. As they got closer, they saw the golden streaks in its feathers as the golden eagle leaped from a tree and soared over the canyon. They were filled with wonder at its immense size and beauty. The eagle is the symbol of the United States of America.

America has been great in size and beauty and has soared high and free as we honored the Lord “in whom we trust” and as we have been “one nation under God”. Blessed by God we have weathered wars and helped around the world in a way no country has in history. America has been a bastion of freedom to worship. But America has lost its footing. We have moved away from our foundation.

The Bible says, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord” Ps. 33:12. It isn’t enough to say the words. God blesses the nation who honors Him as Lord. He warns of the folly of worshiping the “creature” (mankind) rather than the “Creator.”

He establishes His people. He chooses to bless a nation or not. He is aware of the motives and thoughts of hearts. In spite of our turning from Him, He holds out this promise: “If my people, who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land” (2 Chron. 7:14).
