Lady Wolfpack kick off season with win

DAYTON–The Kittitas Lady Coyotes and Dayton-Waitsburg opened the season here last week, with the Lady Wolfpack waltzing away with a three-set win, 25-17, 25-23, 25-20.

Matches versus White Swan and Pomeroy, set for last Thursday and Monday, respectively, were canceled. DW visited Riverview Tuesday of this week and will host Touchet in a non-conference match Wednesday, and WWVA on the home court Thursday.

The Lady Wolfpack jumped right on the Coyotes with a 25-17 win in the first set.

In the second set, the team slumped.

"I'm very proud of how this team worked together to come out with the win," commented Head Coach Tracy Barron. "Madison Gallardo also contributed four digs to pull us out of our second match slump."

Another factor in the three-set sweep was libero Emily Rodrick, Barron said. "Emily Rodrick came through in a big way for us contributing five aces and numerous near-perfect passes as the team's libero."

Kill leader was Claudia Benavides with three, followed by Makenna Barron, Kylee Henry and Peyton Struckmeier with a pair of kills apiece, and Elsie Mann with a single spike.

Tops among servers was Mann with four ace serves. Benavides was a force at the service line with three aces. Barron and Struckmeier each nailed two aces, and Henry counted a single ace serve.

Defensively, Barron and Mann each made two blocks, and Benavides and Struckmeier each had one stuff at the net.

Barron and Henry both counted five assists.
