County Republicans' Forum tonight

DAYTON–Voters will get another opportunity to hear from and pose questions to local political candidates at a Republican Candidate Forum set for 7 p.m. tonight, October 13, at the Dayton High School Auditorium. The forum is sponsored by the Columbia County Republican Central Committee.

Candidates slated to attend include Jann Manwell, write-in candidate for Columbia County Auditor; Carla Rowe, Treasurer; Representatives Joe Schmick and Mary Dye, 9th District Republicans; Sheriff candidates Joe Helm and Jeff Jenkins; and County Commissioner Candidates Charles Amerein and Jack Miller.

With the exception of the races for auditor, sheriff and commissioner, candidates speaking at the forum are unopposed on the November 8 General Election Ballot.

The name of former Auditor Anne Higgins, who resigned due to health reasons effective August 31, will appear on the General Election ballot. Manwell is campaigning as a write-in candidate for the position of County Auditor.

Each unopposed candidate will be given five minutes of introductory time plus five minutes for questions and answers. Sheriff and commissioner candidates will have five minutes for introductory remarks followed by a 20-minute question and answer period.
