COLLEGE PLACE–A let-down followed a competitive first set, then the Lady Knights of Walla Walla Valley Academy went on to defeat the Lady Wolfpack Volleyball squad here Tuesday night, October 11, in three sets, 23-25, 6-25, 15-25.
Dayton-Waitsburg is now 3-7 on the season, 0-4 in 2B EWAC East Volleyball standings, behind TriCities Prep at 5-0, River View at 4-1, Warden 2-2, WWVA 1-2 and DW tied for fifth place with Columbia.
The Wolfpack hosts TriCities Prep on its Dayton court Thursday, October 13, with first serve at 6:30 p.m. DW visits Columbia next Tuesday, October 18.
"The team continues to improve every time they step on the court," says Head Coach Tracy Barron. "As a coach, win or lose, that's all you can ask for."
Elsie Mann led the team with nine kills, two blocks, two ace serves and a dig.
Makenna Barron was tough at the net, blocking four and hammering four kills. She added six assists.
Peyton Struckmeier made a pair of blocks, one kill and two digs.
River View visited October 5 and won in three sets, 12-25, 3-25, 15-25.
"The team showed great improvement over the last time we played this team at the beginning of the season," Barron said. "Their coverage improved and their communication improved. As this team continues to grow and play together, they will continue to improve."
DW spent considerable time in a defensive posture. Makenna Barron pounded six blocks and Struckmeier four.
Mann counted seven kills, Barron a trio and Struckmeier two kills.
Assist leader was Barron with 15.
