DAYTON-Superintendent Rich Stewart issued a correction to a previous statement he made at the October 5 work session regarding a $5 million State grant for capital projects that the Dayton School District applied for with the help of contracting with McKinstry. When asked by one of the School Board members about the status of the application, he replied that it was not awarded to the district.
Stewart contacted the Chronicle to retract his statement about the grant, post publication. He explained, "I did check OSPI (Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction), and the Dayton School District is on the list for approximately $5 million. There are 41 schools on the list, we currently sit at 31. We could be funded as early as the spring of 2023 or as late as 2025. The grant is for HVAC, electrical and lighting. The elementary school will receive about $4.1 million and the high school the remainder."
Stewart later said at the next regular School Board meeting on October 19 that he thinks the funding will most likely come next year.
