DAYTON–In the front-page article in the January 26, 2023 edition of the Dayton Chronicle “Library Director’s decision appealed” by Melissa Gemmell read: “During the meeting, Library Trustee Charles Beleny (corrected spelling) recommended to the Board and motioned for them to place a freeze on purchasing LGBTQIA books for one year while the controversy gets sorted out.”
It should also read: Beleny’s motion also included to not use the books in question for children story time; take them out of the little libraries around town; and do not use these books for book club.
The article went on to say: “No one seconded, though [board member] Michelle Smith acknowledged that some aspects of the books are not appropriate for all kids.”
