A place in one's heart
Many years ago, a mother was packing the suitcase for her son who was headed off to college for the first time. The suitcase was fully packed except for one space on the side, a couple inches wide and about six inches long. She purposely left it vacant and her hopes were fulfilled when her son, on his own, used that space to pack the Bible he wanted to take with him. It gave her reassurance to know that as her son was moving off into the world, he had a place in his heart for the love and guidance offered in God's holy word.
Times have changed in our culture. Society is breaking down because we have not cherished the Word of the Lord. People have been fractured by sin and sorrow. Jesus said, "Now you are clean through the word I have spoken to you" and David said, "Thy word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against God". Jesus said, "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My word shall not pass away" Mark 13:31.
When we take in God's word through faith our minds are transformed and we see life through His perspective, finding that His will is good, acceptable, and perfect. Society moves from one thing to another, pressing its ways and trends on us. People in life come and go. Yet God promises His loving word will not pass away. It is exactly what we need.
