2023 Prom underscores school spirit at DHS

DAYTON–Many Dayton High School (DHS) students demonstrated their spirit through activities and dress-up days during Prom this week.

The final combined sports week ended with a pep rally coordinated by the DHS Associated Student Body (ASB) which included a send-off for the Dayton-Waitsburg (DW) Wolfpack Softball players as they left for their game that early afternoon.

The Junior class nominated the 2023 Prom Court from the Senior class earlier this week. DHS Prom Court includes Vaughn Walter, Melina Gemmel, Emily Rodrick, Guppie Cush, Hudson Reser, and Brandy Davis. Congratulations to Vaughn Walter for Prom King and Milena Gemmel for Prom Queen! Prom was a successful fundraiser for both Waitsburg High School and DHS Juniors.

Dayton FFA has big things planned for this year. The greenhouse is currently under renovation and clean-up to prepare for expansion. Students from agricultural classes have had the chance to cooperate and work in the greenhouse to get it ready for renovation and the Dayton FFA Annual Plant Sale in May. Last week, Dayton FFA chapter members went to a District Livestock competition in Asotin on April 28. They did well and placed

The Dayton FFA Livestock team competed at the State Livestock competition in Spokane on May 3,. On May 11-13, Dayton FFA members and competitors will go to State Convention in Tri-Cities. The teams competing at State Convention are Vet Science, Quiz Bowl, and Wyntr McCauley for Extemporaneous Speaking.

Sources of Strength is currently a pending club in DHS. The focus for the rest of this year is in May, which is Mental Health Awareness Month. With Kristie Korslund and Melanie Morgan supervising, the members of this club will be organizing campaigns and activities for this month to represent Sources of Strength. These campaigns will explain what Sources of Strength is about and increase knowledge or awareness of mental health.
