Pirate Ponies 4-H Club hosts first horse show

POMEROY–The Pirate Ponies 4-H Club hosted a horse show at the Garfield County Fairgrounds on May 20. The "May the Horse be with You" show included Showmanship, Western Pleasure and Equitation, English Pleasure and Equitation, Bareback, and Trail classes. Prizes were awarded for 4-H Junior, Intermediate, and Senior divisions, as well as open. Heather Hastings won Best of Show and Merritt Scoggin won reserve Best of Show, both Pirate Ponies riders.

In the Junior division, Brayden McKeirnan won Walk/Trot and Trail. Hailey Frei won Showmanship, Western Equitation, and Western Pleasure. In the Intermediate division, Heather Hastings won Showmanship, Walk/Trot, Western Pleasure and Equitation, English Pleasure and Equitation, and Trail. Hastings also won Open Bareback. In the Senior division, Merritt Scoggin won Showmanship, Western Pleasure and Equitation, English Pleasure and Equitation, and Trail. Merritt also won Open Bareback Walk/Trot.

Open winners were Judy Hastings in Showmanship, Walk/Trot, Western Pleasure, and Western Equitation, and Westelle Scoggin in Trail.

The show also included the special class Stick-Horse Trail, where competitors rode stick horses through the trail pattern. Kevin Burnstadt won Most Theatrical, Evelyn Burnstadt won Most Accurate, Katie Rose Burnstadt won Best Back Up, and Karl Burnstadt and Brantley McKeirnan won Fastest Ride.
