Garfield Co. Fairgrounds to be available for fireworks July 4 & 5

POMEROY–The Garfield County board of commissioners (BOCC) approved a request for funding at their meeting on June 20, and approved several agreements at their meeting on June 26.

The commissioners approved $3,000 funding for an ice machine that will be placed at the county shop.

The BOCC approved a request for setting off fireworks at the Garfield County Fairgrounds during the June 26 meeting for the days of July 4 and 5, provided the hay is removed from the field.

The board also approved inter-local agreements between Garfield County and the Palouse Conservation District, and the county and the Pomeroy Conservation District. These agreements are a continuation of a previous working relationship. Also approved at the meeting were an inter-local agreement with the Pebb employer group that updated contact information, and a revised lease for the use of a radio tower for the county's emergency services scanner that updated the name of the leaser to the Richardson Family and included new dates.

The BOCC also met with Nick Waldher to discuss a section of .823 acres at the top of Dutch Flat Road that includes a section of the old county road before it was re-routed in 1967. Waldher has been looking into the process of requesting the vacation of the land and discussed options with the board, including a long-term lease and declaring the land surplus. Further research will be done before any action in the matter is taken.
