Five years of EW ownership marked

POMEROY––Editor and Publisher Charlotte Baker this July 19 marked five years since taking the helm of Pomeroy’s community newspaper.

“It’s been a real treat,” she commented.

“I’ve enjoyed getting to know such a wonderful community,” Baker said, “and extending my friendship into an area that as a child I used to have a connection to through school, 4-H and FFA, but was not as connected as an adult.

The Bakers purchased the business from Michael Tom on July 19, 2018, to follow the 30-year editor and publisher of the now 141-year-old newspaper.

“I have made some nice friends and many new acquaintances,” she said, “and I really value their integrity and their connectedness to each other. Pomeroy has the traditional attitude and culture of providing a wholesome environment for the family, business and schools, and they come together when someone is in need. It touches my heart because there are so many communities that do not have that camaraderie any more, and we are fortunate to serve communities that do.”

Baker and her husband Loyal are assisted by reporter Naomi Scoggin in producing the paper each week.
