Washington Federal, Inc. announced it has entered into agreements with Bank of America to acquire 51 retail branches, including the Dayton branch.
Amy Schlenz, Jordan Saranto, Melissa McCowen, Nicole Abel and Dustin Rasmussen participated in the Run or Dye event that was held in Kennewick, WA. Sageyn Kilts also completed the 5k Run or Dye.

FBLA team places second at the nationals. Sixteen members of the Dayton FBLA chapter went to the national conference in Orlando, Fla., competing in various events including accounting business law, introduction to business, parliamentary procedure, FBLA principles and procedures, and business plan. Some members were also voting delegates and attended candidate speeches and voting sessions.
Dolly Warren and Susan McElroy were among seven Walla Walla Community College students traveling to Orlando, Fla., for the 1998 Phi Beta Lambda National Leadership Conference. Warren and McElroy competed in Desktop Publishing, a team event, competing against over 50 teams nationwide, placing first in State and third in the Nation.
Three local barrel racers, Chris Miller, Keegan Gallaher, Rosie Gallaher and Slim, won with honors, at the Pioneer Posse Annual Silver bucket Summer Series which takes place every Wednesday evening in June.

Field Springs State Park, in Asotin County, a favorite vacationing and picnicking spot, has a very serious tussock Moth infestation. Vernon Marll questioned the Park ranger about the condition of the park. The Park Ranger noted at that time that he did not know when the area would be sprayed for the Moth infestation, or when the maintenance work would be done at the park.
According to many reports, Coyotes is especially troublesome this year. Leo Harting estimated that they have lost about 25 lambs and ewes this year. A pair of coyotes, a male and female, who have a den of young coyotes, kill a lamb or a ewe about every other day. Hartings also note that there are no pheasants in the area. Al Dale reported a young healthy calf was killed on his land.

Racing his class D speedster at 121 miles per hour, Wayne Casseday captured first place in his event at the Northwest open model airplane meet in Spokane. Over a thousand planes from throughout the northwest competed in the various classes of the meet. Dick Moore had tough luck with his entry in the class B controlled line speed. Three times his motor conked out and on the fourth attempt his plane hitting a speed that would probably have won the event, it lost an elevator and crashed.
A shoplifter entered the McGee jewelry store on Main Street and grabbed a card of fountain pens from the counter. Albert Ridgeway was arrested as a suspect tried on justice court on a charge of petty larceny but was found not guilty.
Arriving at the Furstenfeldbruck Air Base to serve with the United States Air Force in Europe as veterinarian for both this command and this station is Lieut. Col. Henry R. Hoon of Dayton. Hoon was self-employed as a veterinarian before entering the service. He served at Fort Lewis and Seattle.

Within the last few days a number of cook wagons and dining rooms on wheels have passed through the streets of Dayton bound for the harvest fields where they are utilized in feeding the hungry harvesters. One model of its kind, were the sides and ends are usually left open, were covered with wire fly screen and a screen door covered the only entrance to the structure.
MORE THIEVING.--- Thieves broke into John Mustard's cellar and carried away about 100 pounds of home cured bacon and a lot of canned fruit.
Armed with a search warrant, Mr. Mustard made a tour or the camps surrounding the city but failed to get any clue to the stolen property.
