Bulldog football competes at jamboree

DAYTON–The Dayton Bulldog Football Program kicked off its fall season with a jamboree in Pomeroy last Saturday and new Head Coach Lucas Collier saw both some good thing and some things the team will need to work on as it starts the 2023 campaign at home Friday against Sunnyside Christian. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Dayton Athletic Complex.

Collier is positive about the students' response to Dayton reconstituting its football program under the District 9 1B Eight-Man conference, happy that 18 athletes have turned out.

"The jamboree was phenomenal," Collier said this week. "To me, how the team played at the jamboree was not about winning or losing, it was about the mind-set and skills set for football."

Collier saw what areas his charges need to focus on this week in practices leading up to Friday's opener against Sunnyside Christian.

"We did well at certain things like blocking and the running back seeing the field," Collier said. On the other hand, the freshman-heavy lineup-both candidates for quarterback are freshmen-will require the QBs learn how to scramble and exercise ball discipline.

"Starting to get the kids to understand football and rebuild the program is the main focus this year," Collier said.
