DAYTON–The Lady Bulldogs are in the hunt for some wins as the young squad works and battles its way through the first half of the 2023 1B volleyball season. Last week, Columbia-Burbank downed the Lady Dawgs in three sets at home on Thursday, and the Lady Pirates took the match in Pomeroy in three sets.
This week Dayton hosted St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse on Tuesday, visits Garfield-Palouse tonight and gets ready for the Regional Rumble this Saturday in Pomeroy. Next Tuesday, Colton comes to Dayton.
The Lady Coyotes took the first match 25-16 and capitalized on that win with two more, 25-9 and 25-11.
"While we again had some amazing plays and moments together," commented Head Coach Des Jones, "we couldn't string enough of them together to get some momentum on our side. We had too many unforced errors to be able to compete with Burbank. They definitely made us pay for our mistakes.
Dayton served 87% as a team. "That would have been a great accomplishment," Jones noted, "had we scored more than 36 points. We can do better, and I am hopeful that improvement starts showing soon."
At Pomeroy Sept. 19, the Lady Pirates won the league match 14-25, 11-25, 14-25.
"We had some great moments together, but we were on defense too much," Jones said. "They worked hard on defense but had a difficult time getting an offensive attack established.
"I was pleased with their effort and toughness on the court," she said. "We had 87% serving as a team."
